Are some fruits more preferable for your diet than others?
Obviously ANY fresh fruit is always better than canned. As soon as any fruit is peeled it loses valuable nutrients. When you are trying to lose weight it is best to try and choose fruits that are low in sugar. Watermelon, berries, papaya, grapefruit, oranges, plums, peaches, cantaloupe, and kiwi are recommended. This is more difficult for me to stick to in the winter because a lot of the foods I just mentioned are not readily available or even good in this season. Of course (must be because I love them!), banana's, apples, grapes, mango's, and pineapple are higher in sugar. I still eat banana's every morning because they are easy and fast in the morning. I don't think you should avoid them or not eat the fruits with higher sugar altogether. They are still healthy just try not to have two high in sugar fruits per day.
Pomegranates are all the rage these days. They help prevent cancer and research shows they help shrink the size of tumors. The Acai Berry is another fruit many marketers are trying to push on consumers. It is known for the high amount of antioxidents which are supposed to improve health. Have you noticed in the grocery store that a lot of companies are promoting products with pomegranate or acai in them? I'm all for eating foods that are healthy for the body. But, I worry about people thinking these kinds of ingredients in products are going to be a "quick fix." Buyers beware! Just because a cereal or snack bar has pomegranate or acai fruit does NOT mean it is healthy. The amount of fat, calories, and LOADS of sugar will overpower the "healthiness" of the product.
