I had the worst sleep last night. I'm thinking that my son should be sleeping through the night by now. Most people I talk to say their kids were. I have a friend who read a book, I need to find out the name, that suggested starting at 6 months weaning your kids off a bottle completely. I've pretty much got our son down to twice a night. He wakes up (and I don't get up until he's all out crying) and I try to pacify with his binkie but if that doesn't work I put the bottle in his mouth for about 30 seconds, pull it out, and then put the binkie back in. I don't take him out of his crib at all because the less contact he has with me the more likely he will be to fall back asleep...until this week. He's been a nightmare, waking up three times a night and the bottle will not soothe him. He acts like he's still starving. Getting up so frequently and working is leaving me exhausted and irritable. It also makes me wonder if I'm a bad mom because my kid still wakes up so much. People keep telling me that he needs to cry it out. The problem with this is that his room is so close to ours. I turn the monitor off and I hear him bawling his little eyes out for what seems like hours. I can't fall back asleep and it literally hurts my hurt to hear him crying so hard. Any suggestions? Since he just turned 6 months I decided that tomorrow night I will slowly make him cry it out (that's what many different books suggest). I am going to have him cry for 15 minutes once I have woken up. That doesn't seem that long but when you just want to go to sleep and you want your son to stop being so upset it feels like eternity. I'm going to do the 15 minute cry for three nights and then extend it to 20 mins. Hopefully he will eventually get to the point where he crys himself to sleep. Torture!
